From 1977 to 2002 he held the chair of business administration, in particular credit management, and was managing director of the “Stiftung Kreditwirtschaft” (Credit Industry Foundation) and the “Europäisches Bausparinstitut” (EBI) (both at the University of Hohenheim)

He studied and thus began his academic career at the University of Munich. He took on practical work in credit institutions and in auditing, teaching and research activities at foreign universities as well as various study visits to the USA, Japan, China, South-East Asia and Russia.

Main areas of research:

• Internationalisation of banking, risk analysis and management, financial innovation and marketing of credit institutions.
• Author/co-author of numerous publications in the fields of business administration, banking and finance.
• Editor of several publication series and monographs, including the 40th edition of "Obst/Hintner, Geld-, Bank- und Börsenwesen".

Membership in various committees of the economy, member or cooperation in leading scientific associations.
