After an introduction to the subject matter, objectives and basic concepts of corporate finance, the course deals with the fundamentals of investment appraisal in perfect and imperfect markets, the valuation of investments and financial instruments in the face of uncertainty and the fundamentals of corporate financing. In addition to institutional knowledge, the focus is on theoretical issues relating to investment and financing.

The course teaches the basics of banking management. It covers banking business models, national banking systems, financial instruments and valuation methods. In addition, profit-orientated bank management, risk management at bank and employee level as well as theoretical models of bank function and system instability are discussed. Finally, institutions and regulations of macro- and microprudential banking supervision are explained.
