Courses master

The lecture teaches the basics of the construction, application and valuation of financial derivatives (options, forwards, futures, swaps).

The course covers portfolio selection theory and advanced optimization methods using downside risk measures. It also addresses parameter estimation risk and the theoretical foundations of asset pricing models, including CAPM, multi-factor models, and APT. Tutorials focus on practical applications and coding in R. Students enhance their portfolio management skills through investment proposal presentations. For 20 years, students have managed a real portfolio, and participants must prepare an investment or selling proposition relevant to portfolio management.

The Managerial Economics course provides a comprehensive understanding of business management theories, corporate structures and corporate governance. Another focus of the course is managerial decision-making

The lecture deals with the theoretical principles of bank lending (organisation of commercial loans, bank regulation, credit scoring, option-based valuation of debt instruments) and the optimality of loan contracts (loan contracts and contract theory, loans with limited liability, information production in credit relationships, loans in the context of incomplete contracts).

From the Summer Semester 2025 onward, the module "Financial Intermediation" was renamed to "Banks as Financial Intermediaries". It addresses the theoretical foundations of the emergence and design of banks, the instability of banking systems, and the regulation of financial institutions. Further areas of focus include the measurement, modeling, and management of bank risks.
