Bachelor theses are allocated twice a year via a survey on Ilias. Further Information can be found here.
You may write your thesis in either German or English, and the processing time is two months.
Below, you will find information regarding thesis topics at the Chair of Banking and Financial Services, registration deadlines, and the registration procedure.
Central Registration Deadlines
The following central registration deadlines apply, which you can also view here:
- Summer semester: February 15
- Winter semester: July 15
The registration period begins approximately two weeks before the deadline.

2. Topic Allocation and Schedule
The chair may select up to five students who list our chair as their first preference in the central registration process. All other students will be assigned centrally through the algorithm.
You will be notified of your assignment to our chair by the end of February (summer semester) or July (winter semester). Following this, you will receive an email with information on possible topics and an invitation to the first meeting with your supervisor.
After this meeting, you must officially register your Bachelor thesis with the examination office.
Please note that you can begin working on your thesis at any time during the semester.
3. General Information on Topics and Formal Requirements
Topics
- Selection from a predefined topic list (if available). Otherwise, students may propose their own topic.
- Own topic proposal: Requires submission of a research proposal to assess topic suitability.

- Page count: 30 pages (±10%)
- Font size: Arial 11 or Times New Roman 12
- Line spacing: 1.5
- Margins: 2.5 cm (left & right), 2.5 cm (top), 2 cm (bottom)
- Citation style: Harvard or footnote with short references
- Language: English or German

4. Early Communication with Our Chair
Students who wish to list our chair as their first preference for a thesis may express their interest through a pre-registration form. This allows us to get to know you before the registration process begins and to discuss your interests and expectations in advance.
Please contact the chair at the latest by:
- Summer semester: February 15
- Winter semester: July 15
This early notification not only helps us understand your preferences but also assists in selecting (up to) five candidates from the pool of students prioritizing our chair, as mentioned above. However, please note that this submission does not replace the official registration process.
